What is Hamstudy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hamstudy.com offers two online self-study courses for the Canadian Basic <\/strong>and Advanced <\/strong>amateur radio exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hamstudy Basic<\/strong> and Hamstudy Advanced<\/strong> were created by Frank VanderZande VE7AV of Prince George, British Columbia. In 2021, Frank transferred his ownership of Hamstudy to Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC)<\/a>, the national organization for Canada\u2019s 75,000 qualified Radio Amateurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why two courses?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Canada has both Basic and Advanced amateur radio exams to create a tiered licensing system that matches operator privileges with knowledge and technical skill. The Basic exam ensures newcomers understand regulations and fundamentals, while the Advanced exam allows more experienced operators to access greater capabilities and responsibilities. You cannot go directly to the Advanced amateur radio exam. You must first pass the Basic Qualification before you are eligible to attempt the Advanced exam. The two Hamstudy courses cover the subjects appropriate for each level. More specifically, the Advanced course does not include material covered in the Basic course.<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hamstudy Basic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On 15 July, 2025, Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED)<\/a> Canada implemented a new Basic Question Bank. The new bank contains 984 questions in one hundred (100) categories. Hamstudy Basic<\/strong> provides all 984 questions with instructional material relevant to every question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of the changes to the Basic exam, Hamstudy had to be re-written. Dave Goodwin VE3KG is the author of Hamstudy Basic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hamstudy Basic self-study course is designed to help you prepare for success on the Basic Amateur Radio Certificate exam. It features preview lessons and a detailed table of contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
