What is Hamstudy?
Hamstudy.com offers two online self-study courses for the Canadian Basic and Advanced amateur radio exams.
Hamstudy Basic and Hamstudy Advanced were created by Frank VanderZande VE7AV of Prince George, British Columbia. In 2021, Frank transferred his ownership of Hamstudy to Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC), the national organization for Canada’s 75,000 qualified Radio Amateurs.
Hamstudy Basic
On 15 July, 2025, Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada implemented a new Basic Question Bank. The new bank contains 984 questions in one hundred (100) categories. Hamstudy Basic provides all 984 questions with instructional material relevant to every question.
Because of the changes to the Basic exam, Hamstudy had to be re-written. Dave Goodwin VE3KG is the author of Hamstudy Basic 2025.
The Hamstudy 2025 Basic self-study course is designed to help you prepare for success on the Basic Amateur Radio Certificate exam. It features preview lessons and a detailed table of contents.
Hamstudy Advanced
Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada will be implementing a new Advanced Question Bank in late 2026. Hamstudy Advanced 2021 is available now and it will prepare you for success on the current Advanced Amateur Radio Certificate exam.
PLEASE NOTE: The Advanced course is presented in a different (older) format than the Basic course. Once ISED releases the new Advanced Question Bank, the Advanced course will be migrated to the new format used by the Basic course.
